Shining Bright for God - Jan. 17, 2008 “And he (Moses) was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread, nor drank water. And He wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. And it happened as Moses was going down from the mountain of Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony being in Moses' hand as he went down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face had become luminous through His speaking with him. And Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face had become luminous. And they were afraid to come near him. And Moses called to them. And Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. And afterward all the sons of Israel came near. And he commanded them all that Jehovah had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. And Moses finished speaking with them, and he put a veil on his face. But when Moses went in before Jehovah to speak with Him, he took the veil off until he came out. And he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel that which he was commanded. And the sons of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face had become luminous. And Moses put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with Him” -- Exodus 34:28-35 (MKJV). Wow! To be in the presence of God for forty day and nights must have been an awesome experience. Who is God? What is God? How is God? Why is God? We know that the human body will die if it is not nourished with food and water, but Moses was able to live for forty days and nights with no food and water. Moses’ experience on Mount Sinai was a miracle. Because of God’s love, Moses was able to receive the Law of Love (Ten Commandments), which teaches us about the true character of God and brings order into chaos. As Moses communed with the light of the world (God), he absorbed the heavenly light in such a way that his own skin shined brightly. If this is the result of being in the presence of God, it makes me wonder if there are very many people who are truly filled with the Holy Spirit (God). Yes, we can say we are Christians, say nice things, do nice things, but are disconnected from the source of power and light. I’m not saying that those who are truly filled with the Spirit will blind everyone, causing others to wear sunglasses in their presence, but that people will know without doubt that the Spirit-filled are truly filled. I believe that those who are truly filled with the Holy Spirit will glow in a special way. Selfishness is sacrificed, worldly desires are set aside, sinful addictions are conquered, and love for God and others is supreme. I also believe that those who are truly filled with the Spirit will communicate with others in a loving, selfless, and honest way. Selfish and hurtful anger will never be used to communicate and get what is wanted. Most of all, people who know they need Jesus will automatically be drawn to those filled with the Holy Spirit. We must seek to be like Jesus. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him” -- John 3:17 (MKJV). Jesus is currently in heaven, which means we are to continue the work He started. Let’s begin with humble prayer, asking God to forgive us and to give us strength to turn from our wicked ways. From this point on, there is no limit to what God can do in us, through us, and around us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can shine bright in a dark and dying world.
